INSTRUCTIONS:
Paint entire box blue (inside and out); allow to dry.
- Measure and cut a red piece of card stock to fit into the bottom of the inside of box; glue.
- Measure and cut corkboard with penknife to fit in the top inside of box (see photo); glue.
- Glue red star appliqués onto the flat heads of the thumb tacks.
- Cut print of map to fit the outside top of box, glue.
- Glue the USA appliqués to the right side of the box top (see photo for placement).
- Glue photo to top of box (see photo for placement).
- OPTIONAL: Glue half marble over area on map where service person is stationed.
- Starting at the back of the box, glue patriotic trim around the bottom of the box (see photo for placement). For a clean finish, turn back 1/2" of trim end and glue over first raw edge.
- Mount photos (or copies) to red, white or blue card stock, leaving 1/4" border of the card stock around the photo. Cut with decorative scissors.
- Using the thumb tacks with the red stars, pin photos or announcements from newspapers on the corkboard and place photos, letters and emails into the box. Optional: Add some other memento of the person the box features, as a gentle reminder of them.
