INSTRUCTIONS:
To Make the Birdhouse
- Transfer pattern onto board of choice.
- Cover entire front, back, roof and 2 lower sides with double sided adhesive.
- Cut out pattern pieces on solid lines.
- Fold on the dotted lines, starting with the floor and following the numbers, gluing as you go.
- Partially remove the top paper of the double sided adhesive.
- Starting with the back corner at the very bottom, apply the bias tape one row at a time (over lapping slightly). Do several rows until you get to the peaks. When you get to the peaks of the front and back, do them separately, cutting each row.
- Glue a piece of tape vertically at each corner (this will cover the starting and ending positions - see photo).
Note: The side peaks are left bare as they are covered by the roof. For the roof:
- For the roof to have the layered look of shakes, cut several pieces of bias tape (in the color of choice) in 3/4" lengths. Hint: Pinking them gives a neat effect.
- To start, fold the roof in half on the line.
- For a clean finish, lay the first piece of bias tape with 1/2 on the front and 1/2 around the edge to the back. (The first row slightly overhangs the edge of the roof.)
- Continue to lay pieces across this row, slightly overlapping the previous one, ending the same way you started.
- Lay rows up to the fold at the "peak".
- Start the other side of the roof and work from this edge to the "peak" the same way.
- Glue the roof over the peak.
- Cut a black circle from felt for the hole and glue on.
- Use a very small dowel for the perch. Cut a small "x" in position and push dowel in.
- Add a hanger for the roof and a bird on the perch.
- Enjoy!
