Oriental Style Fan PurseOriental Style Fan Purse

You can make this interesting fan purse. All you need is two small pieces of fabric and our Oriental influence ribbons, with matching fan appliqué. It is simply put together and then finished with double fold bias tape and embellished with a few beads and trim. With our simple directions it is quick and easy and just the fashion accessory to hold all your smaller items!

MATERIALS:
1/2 yd. Wrights® 1 1/2" Red Oriental Ribbon (#222-229-065)
1 pkg. Wrights® Black Double Fold Bias Tape (#117-206-031)
1 pkg. Wrights® Scarlet Medium Rick Rack (#117-401-076)
1 pkg. Wrights® Black Medium Rick Rack (#117-401-031)
1 1/2 yds. Wrights® 3/16" Black Cording (#183-6141-031)
1 yd. Wrights® Black Trim (#183-6129-031)
1 Wrights® 3" Red Tassel (#144-909-20)
1 pkg. Wrights® Fan Appliqué (#193-7180-001)
3 pkgs. Wrights® Black Frogs (#192-2280-001) (optional)
12" Wrights® 1/8" Black Cording (#184-6305-031A) (for threading beads)
1 9" x 12" piece of Black Fabric for Front and Back of Purse
1 9" x 12" piece of Black Fabric for Lining
-- Scissors
-- Black Thread
-- Fabric Glue
-- Miscellaneous Glass Beads. (Look for beads with large holes for threading onto cord.)(optional)
Pattern

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Enlarge and trace pattern (2 each) onto black fabrics. Cut.
  2. Sew one face and one lining piece together (wrong sides together). Repeat for second piece.
  3. Cut three 5" pieces of red ribbon.
  4. Pin ribbon on fan using pattern and photo as a guide. Stitch or glue with fabric glue.
  5. Cut two 6" pieces of scarlet rick rack.
  6. Cut one 6" piece of black rick rack.
  7. Sew or glue rick rack onto front of purse (use photo as our guide).
  8. Cut two 9" pieces black bias tape.
  9. Open bias tape and sandwich straight purse sections (Side #1, front) into bias tape (this will be the finished edge for the opening of your purse). Repeat for back.
  10. Pin front and back purse pieces together (lining sides together). Stitch or glue.
  11. Open one end of the bias tape and fold back 1/2" to make a finished edge. Press.
  12. Open bias tape, sandwich sides two and three (starting at point B). Pin in place to point C.
  13. Sew bias tape from point B to point C, to point A leaving 1" open at point A.
  14. Repeat Step 11 for clean finish at point A. Stitch.
  15. Stitch or glue black decorative trim over bias tape around entire purse. (Hint: Fold under 1/2" at each end of trim and stitch or glue to prevent ends from fraying.)
  16. Optional: Stitch or glue frogs onto each corner of purse (one half on the front and the other half on the back).
  17. Glue tassel loop on the inside of bag at point A (if using frogs you can tie loop of tassel around frog knot).
  18. Make a knot at each end of larger cord (sew or glue to the inside of purse at point A and B) for strap.
  19. Iron fan appliqué to the backside of purse according to manufacturer instructions (see photo for position).
  20. Glue hook & loop dots inside top edge of purse for closure.
  21. String beads onto each end of narrow black cording. Tie in a double knot around red tassel and frog knot for decoration.
  22. Enjoy!
