Wrights Patriotic Sweatshirt using BondexPatriotic Sweatshirt

Wrights Patriotic Sweatshirt closeupHere's a fun, easy way to show your support for America. Our sweatshirt (designed by Diane of our Marketing Dept.) features our new Iron-on Bondex Patch which is printed in a random patriotic red, white and blue pattern. Add a few stars and a soutache outline and you're all set to go!!

MATERIALS:
2 pkgs. Wrights® Bondex Americana Iron On Patches (#230-007-941)
1 pkg. Wrights® Red Soutache Braid (#117-530-065)
1 pkg. Wrights® Red Sew-on Appliqué Stars (#193-2350-001)
1 pkg. Wrights® White Sew-on Appliqué Stars (#193-2370-001)
1 Cotton or Cotton/Polyester Blend Sweatshirt
-- Thread (To match color of braid and stars)
Pattern
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Machine wash and dry the shirt before starting. (This will remove any finish so that product can be ironed on).
  2. Remove the Bondex patches from the package and lay out on a flat surface. Cut the letters out of the pattern and pin to the right side of the fabric. Cut.
  3. Position the letters on the shirt and apply according to the directions on the back of the Bondex package.
  4. Outline the letters with the soutache braid using matching colored thread and either machine or hand stitching. Begin by tacking the first end of the Soutache braid with a few zig zag stitches to help prevent fraying and doing the same at the other end. NOTE: These starting and finishing braid ends will be covered with appliqué stars.
  5. After outlining all of the letters, place one appliqué star over the ends of the soutache braid and stitch down either by hand or machine, using matching colored thread.
  6. Position the remaining stars randomly over the shirt, stitch.
  7. Enjoy!

If you want to create your own design, here are some suggestions:

  • Use different words: Celebrate, Freedom, One Nation, Proud, etc.
  • Use different shapes: hearts, doves, fire crackers, etc.
  • Use different trims from Wrights®, such as Rick Rack, to outline the shapes and letters, or to embellish the shirt.
  • Add glitter and/or fabric paint.
  • Expand your decorating ideas into accessories and home decor: hats, handbags, pillows, table runners, napkins, and placemats; the list is endless!
