Beaded Wire and Trim BraceletBeaded Wire and Trim Bracelet

You can make this multi strand bracelet just like the ones in the designers corner of the jewelry counters in the best department stores. All you need is Wrights® suede "cord", a few beads, wire and findings! Make it longer (use your neck measurements), and you have a choker. You can make several to go with your different dress styles. Dress them up or down with the beads you use. They are guaranteed to turn heads when you mention you made them yourself.

  1. Measure wrist, comfortably, cut 5 pieces of trim to this length. Lay flat on work space.
  2. Using wire cutters, cut a 3" piece of wire.
  3. Thread the wire through your first bead (see photo 1) and lay it on top of first piece of trim.
  4. Holding bead and trim between your thumb and forefinger wind each end of the wire around the trim 2 to 3 times (see photo 2).
  5. Trim wire at each end to 1/4" (or just long enough to fit inside your bead) and, using jewelry pliers, thread the wire into the center of the bead enclosing the ends.
  6. Randomly place 3 to 4 beads onto this piece of trim in the same manner. Hint: Position beads at least 2" from ends of trim.
  7. Repeat step 2 - 6 with the remaining 4 pieces of trim. (Periodically line up the pieces of trim to see how your beads are lining up next to each other). Hint: you do not want the beads perfectly lined up with large spaces empty (see photo 3).
  8. Line up the finished beaded trim lengths next to each other and tape ends down.
  9. Trim 3/4" off each end.
  10. To connect the strips of beaded trim, starting approximately 2" in from the first end, thread wire through a bead concealing the end and wind wire around the trim next to the bead. Continue wiring the next piece of trim to the first by wrapping the wire around the trim. Repeat until you have all 5 pieces of trim wired together. Cut and feed the end of the wire through one of the beads (see photo 3A).
  11. Repeat for other end of bracelet.
  12. Cut two, 3" pieces of grosgrain ribbon. Place a small piece of two sided tape in the center of ribbon.
  13. Lay the ends of trim onto tape; this will help hold the trim in place while you sew it (see photo 4).
  14. Stitch all 5 pieces of trim onto the ribbon to secure.
  15. Trim off sides of ribbon to 1/2", glue and fold in. Pin and let dry (see photo 5).
  16. Glue top of ribbon and fold down, covering raw ends. Pin and let dry (See photo 6).
  17. Sew lobster claw onto one end.
  18. Sew chain onto opposite end. Hint: You can make your own chain by attaching a series of links.
  19. Enjoy!
