INSTRUCTIONS:
    Main Church Building
  1. Transfer all church patterns to board of choice.
  2. Cut church pieces from board with craft knife or scissors. Cut window openings. Cut two wings.
  3. Remove protective paper from one side of adhesive. Cover one side of church pieces with adhesive. Once the church pieces are covered, do not pull protective paper from the second side of adhesive. If using double sided tape, do not overlap adhesive edges. Illustration 1
  4. Trim excess adhesive from all edges of church pieces and window openings.
  5. Turn main church building, adhesive side up, on work surface.
  6. Peel back protective paper along bottom edge of church to expose approximately 1" of adhesive.
  7. Place white bias tape over adhesive, aligning the folded edge of tape with the bottom edge of the church. Allow the tape to extend beyond sides of church approximately 1/4". This is the first row of "siding".
  8. For next row of siding, lay a second row of bias tape onto adhesive, even with and slightly overlapping the first row.
  9. Continue to peel back protective paper from adhesive and apply bias tape to church until you have covered entire building (including windows) to the roof (see illustration 1). Illustration 2
  10. Turn church over, wrong side up and trim all excess bias tape from church edges and window openings with craft knife or scissors (see illustration 2). Turn church over to right side.
  11. Cut two strips of white bias tape the length of the side of church, from roof line to foundation (approximately 6 1/2" ).
  12. Fold bias tape strips in half the long way and finger press.
  13. Glue folded bias tape to side edges of church (half on front and around to the back) to cover raw ends of bias tape and cardboard.
  14. Cut 2 strips of white bias tape the length of the sides of the roof (approximately 5" ).
  15. Follow steps 12 and 13 to finish edges of roof.
  16. Glue window and door appliqués to front of church (see photo). Set church aside.

    Steeple
    Illustration 3

  17. Lay steeple, adhesive side up, on work surface.
  18. Measure and cut 1 yard each of black and gray bias tape.
  19. Cut entire length of black and gray bias tape at folded edge with pinking shears to create sculptured shingles.
  20. Lay one row of black sculptured shingles along bottom edge of roof of steeple. The sculptured edge of the shingles should overlap the siding. Allow the shingles to extend beyond sides of steeple approximately 1/4".
  21. For next row of shingles, lay a second row of bias tape onto adhesive, even with and slightly overlapping the first row.
  22. Continue to cover roof with 2 more rows of black, 2 rows of gray, 2 rows of black, 2 rows of gray and 5 rows of black shingles (see illustration 3).
  23. Turn steeple over, wrong side up. Illustration 4
  24. Cut excess white bias tape from sides of steeple. DO NOT CUT BLACK OR GRAY BIAS TAPE (see illustration 4).
  25. Wrap excess black and gray singles around to wrong side of steeple and glue in place.
  26. Cut 2 - 2 1/4" strips of white bias tape.
  27. Fold bias tape strips in half the long way and finger press.
  28. Glue folded bias tape to side edges of steeple (half on front and around to the back) to cover raw ends of white bias tape and cardboard.
  29. Repeat steps 27 and 28 with 2 - 1 1/2" strips of white bias tape for second half of steeple. Set steeple aside.

    Wings

  30. Lay one wing, adhesive side up, on work surface.
  31. Lay one row of white single fold bias tape along bottom edge of wing. Allow the tape to extend beyond sides of steeple approximately 1/4". This is the first row of "siding".
  32. Continue to lay rows of siding, slightly overlapping each row, until entire wing is covered to roof.
  33. Measure and cut 1 yard each of black and gray bias tape.
  34. Cut entire length of black and gray bias tape at folded edge with pinking shears to create sculptured shingles.
  35. Lay one row of black sculptured shingles along bottom edge of roof of wing. The sculptured edge of the shingles should overlap the siding. Allow the shingles to extend beyond sides of wing approximately 1/4".
  36. For next row of shingles, lay a second row of bias tape onto adhesive, even with and slightly overlapping the first row.
  37. Continue to cover roof with 2 more rows of black, 2 rows of gray and 3 rows of black shingles (see illustration 3).
  38. Turn wing over, wrong side up.
  39. Cut excess white bias tape from sides of wing and window opening. DO NOT CUT BLACK OR GRAY BIAS TAPE (see illustration 4).
  40. Wrap excess black and gray singles around to wrong side of wing and glue in place.
  41. Cut one 3 1/4" strip of white bias tape.
  42. Fold bias tape in half the long way and finger press.
  43. Glue folded bias tape to outside edge of wing (half on front and around to the back) to cover raw ends of bias tape and cardboard.
  44. Glue window appliqué to front of wing.
  45. Repeat steps 31 thru 44 for a total of two wings.
  46. Glue steeple and wings to back of church (see photo for placement).
  47. Enjoy!
Suggested end uses for the bias tape building fronts.
Option 1: For a free standing house...
Transfer easel pattern to board and cut. Score easel along dotted line and bend to make a 90° fold. Glue short end of easel to back of house.
Option 2: For a lovely mantel decoration...
Connect several house fronts together at side edges with strips of bias tape to create seams. Fold houses at seams to create a free standing village "screen". Place votive lights behind screen for added ambience.
Option 3: For a decorative chair rail accent...
Add a small block of wood (the depth of your chair rail x the length of house x 1" high) at bottom edge of houses for weight.
Option 4: A piece of framed art for the perfect wedding or anniversary gift...
Take a photograph of a favorite house or building. Enlarge photo to desired size and use as a pattern. Design house using techniques in this project sheet and your color scheme. Mount house onto a decorative board and accessorize with trees, shrubs or flowers to create a beautiful piece of art. Frame your design and personalize with an engraved plaque.
