Our first scene (see photo above) is set up in a 3ft. x 2ft. area. This display can be set up on a coffee table, a table top anywhere in your house or even under your tree.
First, we doubled the quilt batting and spread it on the surface. Then we lined up the cottage and the three stores evenly in the front row. Then in the back, we raised up (on boxes, under the quilt batting), the Christmas Inn, Church, Colonial and Victorian houses. We have them at different heights and staggered them just behind the first row. Next we filled in between them with the pine trees and the bare branches, which we set into small pieces of styrofoam as a base to help them stand. The roadway at the very front is a 3in. wide piece of felt. It creates the street and the driveway to the cottage.
We finished the scene off by stretching small amounts of fibre fill to small poufs and layed it by the "roadway" and near the buildings to give the illusion of snowdrifts and banks. Let your own imagination and supplies on hand help create your scene.
Our second scene (see photo below) is lined up straight on a narrow fireplace mantle. Here the cottage and church are raised just behind all the other buildings. We've used the evergreens and bare branches as filler in between the buildings. This we set directly on the wooden mantle and filled in with the small poufs of fibre fill for the snowbanks.
Note here, also, we have fibre fill "smoke" coming from behind the chimneys. This setting is perfect for a long (4ft.)and narrow (6-8in.) surface such as a bookcase or counter top.
These are some of our suggestions for the village, but visit any craft store or Christmas shop and see for yourself, all the accessories you can add to make your village scene more personalized and life-like. You can add a train and track going around the whole village and really have some fun.
ENJOY!
