INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Transfer store and chimney pattern to board of choice.
  2. Cut one store and one chimney with craft knife or scissors. Illustration 1
  3. Remove protective paper from one side of adhesive. Cover one side of store and chimney with adhesive. Once the store and chimney are covered, do not pull protective paper from the second side of adhesive. If using double sided tape, do not overlap adhesive edges.
  4. Trim excess adhesive from all edges of store, window openings and chimney .
  5. Turn store, adhesive side up, on work surface.
  6. Peel back protective paper along bottom edge of store board to expose approximately 1" of adhesive.
  7. Place brick bias tape over adhesive, aligning the folded edge of tape with the bottom edge of the store board. Allow the tape to extend beyond sides of store board approximately 1/4". This is the first row of "brick".
  8. For next row of brick, lay a second row of bias tape onto adhesive, even with and butting up to the first row.
  9. Continue to peel back protective paper from adhesive and apply bias tape to store board until you have covered entire building (including windows) to the first roof (see illustration 1).
  10. Cut several pieces of black mini bias tape 1/2" long. These are the roof "shingles".
  11. Lay one row of shingles along bottom edge of roof. The cut edge of shingles should overlap the brick bias tape (see illustration 1).
  12. Continue to lay rows of shingles to the top of first roof, slightly overlapping each row, until entire roof is covered (see illustration 1).
  13. Repeat steps 6 thru 12 to cover second story of store board (see illustration 1). Illustration 2
  14. Turn store over, wrong side up, and trim all excess bias tape from store edges, window openings and roof lines with craft knife or scissors (see illustration 2). Turn toy store over to right side.
  15. Cut two strips of brick bias tape the length of the side of first story of store, from roof line to foundation (approximately 5").
  16. Fold bias tape strip in half the long way and finger press.
  17. Glue folded bias tape to edge of store (half on front and around to the back) to cover raw ends of bias tape and board.
  18. Cut 2 strips of black mini bias tape the length of the sides of the first roof (approximately 1").
  19. Follow steps 16 and 17 to finish edges of roof.
  20. Cut one strip of black mini bias tape the length of the top of first roof (approximately 5 1/2").
  21. Glue strip of bias tape over top row of shingles on roof to cover raw edges (see photo). Wrap ends of bias tape around to back side of store.
  22. Follow steps 15 thru 21 to finish second story of store and roof.
  23. Draw bricks onto store with a fine point marker (see photo).
  24. Glue window, sign and door appliqués to front of store (see photo).

    Chimney

  25. Cut 2 strips of brick bias tape approximately 1 1/2" long.
  26. Lay brick bias tape over adhesive on chimney the long way. Butt long edges together.
  27. Wrap excess bias tape around edges of chimney and glue down.
  28. Draw bricks on chimney with a fine point marker.
  29. Glue chimney to back of roof (refer to photo for placement).
  30. Enjoy!
Suggested end uses for the bias tape building fronts.
Option 1: For a free standing house...
Transfer easel pattern to board and cut. Score easel along dotted line and bend to make a 90° fold. Glue short end of easel to back of house.
Option 2: For a lovely mantel decoration...
Connect several house fronts together at side edges with strips of bias tape to create seams. Fold houses at seams to create a free standing village "screen". Place votive lights behind screen for added ambience.
Option 3: For a decorative chair rail accent...
Add a small block of wood (the depth of your chair rail x the length of house x 1" high) at bottom edge of houses for weight.
Option 4: A piece of framed art for the perfect wedding or anniversary gift...
Take a photograph of a favorite house or building. Enlarge photo to desired size and use as a pattern. Design house using techniques in this project sheet and your color scheme. Mount house onto a decorative board and accessorize with trees, shrubs or flowers to create a beautiful piece of art. Frame your design and personalize with an engraved plaque.
