INSTRUCTIONS:
House Base
- Transfer house and chimney pattern to cardboard. Cut 2 houses and one chimney with craft knife or scissors. (Optional: Cut window openings.)
- Open tissue box and remove tissue and protective plastic.
- Cut flaps from opening of box.
- Glue 1 cardboard house each to front and back of tissue box (see illustration 1).
- Remove protective paper from one side of adhesive. Cover all sides of house, including peaks, with adhesive. Once the house is covered, do not pull protective paper from the second side of adhesive. If using double sided tape, do not overlap adhesive edges. Trim excess adhesive from edges of peaks.
Sculptured Siding
Measure and cut 3 yards of white single fold bias tape. Cut entire length of bias tape at fold with pinking shears to create sculptured siding. Set aside.
- Peel back protective paper along bottom edge of house to expose approximately 1" of adhesive around entire house. Place brick bias tape over adhesive, starting and stopping at back corner. Align the folded edge of tape with the bottom edge of the house. This is your first row of siding. For next row of siding, lay a second row of bias tape onto adhesive, even with and slightly overlapping the first row. Continue to peel back protective paper from adhesive and apply brick bias tape to house for a total of (8) rows.
- Next, place 2 rows of white sculptured siding onto house. Continue to cover house to bottom of peaks with (7) rows of brick. Cover peaks with (3) rows of sculptured, (3) rows of brick and (5) rows of sculpture bias tape. Allow bias tape strips to extend beyond sides of peeks approximately 1/4" (see illustration 2).
Turn one peak over, wrong side up, on work surface and trim all excess bias tape from peak edges with craft knife or scissors (see illustration 3). Repeat for second peak. Cut 4 strips of brick bias tape the length of the sides of the house, from roof line to foundation (approximately 5").
- Fold bias tape strips in half the long way and finger press. Glue folded bias tape to corners of house for trim and to cover raw ends of tape at back corner. Cut 4 strips of brick bias tape the length of the sides of the peak (approximately 5 1/2"). Glue tape over edges of peak (half on the front and half on the back) to cover raw ends of tape and cardboard.
- Glue window and door appliqués to house (use photo as your guide).
Roof
Cut one piece of cardboard 9" x 5 1/2". Find center of card (the short way) and make a slight score (see illustration 4). Cover one entire side of cardboard with adhesive.
- *Cut khaki and dark gray bias tape into 1" pieces. These are the roof "shingles". Lay one row of shingles over adhesive along the bottom edge of roof. The cut edge of the shingles should overlap the end of the cardboard (see illustration 5). Alternate colors as you go. Continue to lay rows of shingles to the score line of roof (approximately 6 rows). Repeat from (*) for second side of roof.
- Cut two 9" pieces of khaki bias tape. Glue strips at side of roof to cover raw ends of shingles (refer to photo). Cut two 6 1/2" strips of bias tape. Glue strips at top edge of roof at score line to cover raw ends of final rows of shingles (refer to photo).
Chimney
- Score cardboard chimney along dotted lines. Fold chimney along scored dotted lines. Glue tab to the outside wall of chimney. Cover chimney with adhesive. Cover chimney with bias tape using techniques for house. Glue chimney to roof. Draw lines for bricks.
- Enjoy!
