Measuring:
Measure the diameter and height (from edge to floor) of your table. Multiply the height by 2, then add the diameter plus 1" for seam allowance. This equals the total width and length needed.

Fabric Needs
To calculate yardage needed follow this formula:

  • Width of tablecloth divided by width of fabric = number of fabric widths.
  • Length of tablecloth x number of fabric widths = amount of fabric needed.

Sewing the Tablecloth
Cut fabric to proper lengths, cut one panel in half lengthwise and place on either side of center panel. Stitch together.

Example: For a 72" round tablecloth, cut and stitch as shown:
Illustration

With right sides together, fold the seamed cloth into quarters. Pin a tape measure at folded corner and use as a compass, marking the radius. Cut and finish by stitching 1/2" from the edge. Press under on stitching line. Fold raw edge under 1/4" toward fold and press, easing fullness as you press. Stitch hem in place.

Trimming
Select cording, fringe, ruffles, piping, bullion or any other trim of your choice to be sewn at the bottom edge of tablecloth. To determine trim yardage, use this formula:

Tablecloth diameter x 3.2 divided by 36 = number of yards needed.
(Example: 72" x 3.2 divided by 36" = 6 1/2 yds)
