Chenille Denim PurseChenille Trimmed Denim Purse

Kids can make one or several bags decorated in different styles. It's so simple with Bondex® Iron-on fabric. And the strap is sooo cool! All you do is wrap cord and beads around your finger in a "Finger Crochet" method. It's quick, easy and fun. Have a sleep over and let everyone design their own bag!

1 pc. 7 3/4" x 15 1/4" Medium Blue Denim Fabric
1 spl. Purple Crochet Yarn
1 bag Assorted Color Plastic Beads
1 Hook and Loop Dot or Snap Closure
-- Darning Needle, Sewing Needle and Thread

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Fold long edges of denim fabric over 1/2" and press. Then fold short edges of denim fabric over 1/2" and press (see illustration 1).
  2. Lay entire piece of iron-on fabric over folded fabric, glue side over folded edges.
  3. Press Iron-on fabric to denim following instructions on package. Let fabric cool down.
  4. Fold short end of fabric 5" up from one side to create bag (see illustration 2).
  5. Begin to sew side seams of bag with darning needle and crochet yarn using a 1/2" blanket stitch. Start at letter A and continue around entire bag to letter B (see illustration 3).
Hint: You may want to mark the side seams with a white pencil before sewing so that your stitches are uniform.
  6. Cut two 7 1/2" pieces of bright pink rick rack.
  7. Glue ends of rick rack under with fabric glue.
  8. Glue rick rack to front of bag and bag flap (see photo).
  9. Sew beads to bottom edge of rickrack (see photo).

    Rick Rack Flowers

  10. Cut the chenille rick rack approximately 5" long. (Be sure you have four complete points on the top edge and that the cut ends point in opposite directions. (See illustration 4).
  11. Glue rick rack ends together to form rings. (See illustration 5).
  12. Thread needle and sew points on one side of rick rack ring. (See illustration 6).
  13. Cinch together with thread and tie off but do not cut thread.
  14. Sew three beads to each flower center using existing thread. Tie off thread at back of flower and trim.
  15. Glue rick rack flowers to center of rick rack band on bag (see photo).

Crochet Handle - (The handle will be created using a technique called "Finger Crochet")

  16. Feed approximately 40 - 45 beads onto lace up cord.
  17. Wrap short end of cord around index finger twice (see illustration 7).
  18. Pull loop #1 over loop #2 and off finger (see illustration 8) - you now have one loop remaining on finger which becomes loop #1.
  19. Wrap one more loop of cord around finger creating a new loop #2 (see illustration 9).
  20. Pull loop #1 over new loop #2 and off finger. (Tighten beginning of braid forming first knot).
  21. Slip one bead up to braid (as far as it will go) and repeat steps 19 and 20.
  22. Continue to finger crochet cord, alternating with one bead on every other knot.
  23. Tie final knot at end of cord and trim excess.
  24. Sew 1" of each end of crochet cord to inside seam of bag to form shoulder strap (see photo).
  25. Enjoy!
