INSTRUCTIONS:
 - Open all packages of bias hem facing.
- Glue lengths of bias hem facing together in order of preference. Glue together by putting right sides of facing together, lining up raw edges, pinning in place and along fold.
Alternate direction of glueing from one seam to the next to keep piece straight. Finger press seams open and entire piece flat and straight. Square off top edge and trim with pinking shears.
- Measure width of striped piece. Mark off width measurement along length of striped piece creating squares. Cut at markings with pinking shears.
Spray striped squares with spray starch until completely saturated. Allow to dry and repeat or dip in fabric stiffener and allow to dry completely.
- Following pattern in Illustration 1 make a pinwheel pattern and cut out along outside edges only.
 - Pattern will be pinned to right side of one striped square, wrong side of the other. Press fusible interfacing to corners of each square as marked on pattern (see illus. 1) pressing onto right side of one square, wrong side of other. (Squares should be used with interfaced side up.)
- Pin pattern onto striped squares, placing as shown in Illustration 2. For each pinwheel, pin pattern to one striped square right side up (interfacing up), the other wrong side (and interfaced side) up.
With pattern pinned in place, fold squares in half twice and snip off corner point creating a circular opening in the center, slightly larger than 1/4".
- Open folds and cut along cut lines marked using pinking shears.
- Cut two 2 3/8" diameter circles of pressure sensitive patch. Fold circles in half twice and snip off corner/center point creating a circular opening the same size as opening in striped pinwheel. Matching center points, place circles on top of squares, right side facing up.
- Using paper punch, punch a hole-carefully-at each circle marked on pattern (see illus. 1).
 - With wrong sides together, center points matching, place one pinwheel square on top of the other as shown in Illustration 3. Pin to hold in place.
- Bend flexible straw at right angle. Put shorter end of straw through center opening of two pinwheel squares. Push squares down to bend.
Following Illustration 4 lift pinwheel corner number 1 and slip onto tip of short end of straw - TURNING CORNER OVER SO THAT RIGHT (interfaced) SIDE FACES TOP (right) SIDE OF SQUARE. Repeat for corner numbers 2, 3, 4, etc. until all 8 corner points are on straw.
- At point approximately 5/8" in from tip of short end of straw wrap a 1/4" piece of pressure sensitive patch around straw to form stop for corners.
With a sharp blade make four 1/8" slits in tip of straw. Bend four sections of straw back until they hold at right angle to straw (see illus. 5 - this is a side view).
- Place a few drops of glue into the long piece of straw. Push wooden dowel into long piece of straw until end of dowel meets bend.
Wrap straw and dowel with soft and easy seam binding to cover. Glue at bend in straw and bottom end to hold.
- Enjoy!
