Wrights Pumpkins with Pocket Peekers batsPumpkin with Bat

Here's a real cool project kids can do themselves, with very little or no supervision at all.

Den Mothers, Brownie and Girl Scout leaders - your troop members can earn their craft badge very quickly and inexpensively. They will have so much more fun while creating their own "spooky" or "happy" Halloween faces!! And because the faces are made using a stick-on mending fabric tape, they can cut and reposition many mouths, add teeth and eyes until they have it the perfect shape and expression just the way they want!

2 Wrights® Bat Pocket Peekers
1 6" Styrofoam Ball

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Remove all bias tape from card. Iron seams of bias tape open to create one long, straight piece of fabric.
  2. Put styrofoam ball on work surface and press down to create a flat spot on the top and bottom of ball.
  3. Pin bias tape to one of these flat surfaces.
  4. Wrap ball with bias tape until entire ball is covered. HINT: Stretch slightly to fit curve.
  5. Pin final end of bias tape at flat spot of ball and cut excess. This is your pumpkin shape.
  6. Wrap end of cord with a piece of adhesive tape to prevent fraying.
  7. Pin taped end of cord to flat top of pumpkin shape.
  8. Wrap cord around pumpkin to create 8 sections (see project photo). Pin at the top and bottom of pumpkin as you go to stabilize cord.
  9. Cut a piece of twig approximately 1 1/2" long and hot glue to top of pumpkin for the stem.
  10. Cut face from pressure sensitive sheets using pattern.
  11. Peel away protective paper and position on pumpkin (refer to project photo).
  12. Cut a 10" piece of copper wire.
  13. Stick the two bat appliqués back to back over the end of the copper wire.
  14. Twist the remaining wire around a pencil to curl.
  15. Stretch out wire and insert the other end into the pumpkin (refer to project photo for placement).
  16. Enjoy!
