Kids can have fun and be creative while making jewelry from rick rack. All they need to know (or learn) is how to do a three strand braid.

We've done a necklace and bracelet in red white and blue to be patriotic for the upcoming holiday, but you can make yours in many more cool and funky colors to coordinate with your wardrobe (or your mood!).

Trade them with your best friend to show "friends forever"!

MATERIALS:
1 pkg. Wrights® Iridescent Medium Rick Rack (#117-427-001)
1 pkg. Wrights® Red Medium Rick Rack (#117-401-065)
1 pkg. Wrights® Blue Medium Rick Rack (#117-401-078)
8 Jump Rings
2 sets Closures
4 Open Barrel Ends
-- Heavy Duty Glue
-- Tape
INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. From each package of rick rack, cut a piece 36" long.
  2. Stack the three lengths on top of one another, matching the "V"s. Secure them by stapling the ends together.
  3. Tape this end to a work table.
  4. Fan out the rick rack (See photo 1).
  5. Begin braiding by folding the left strip over the center, then the right over the center, in a braiding fashion, interlocking the "V"s as you fold (See photo. 2).
  6. Continue to braid until a three-dimensional braid begins to form (looks like a tube). Do entire length.
  7. Wrap tape tightly around ends. Measure wrist, add 1", and cut from braided length. Tape ends again. Illustration 2
  8. Cut off excess tape and rick rack.
  9. Squeeze glue into open end of barrel, push taped end of braid into glue as far as it can go. Allow to dry.
  10. Add jump rings to each barrel.
  11. Add closures to each ring.
  12. Repeat steps 9-12 for necklace.
  13. Enjoy!
Make many necklaces in varying lengths and colors, and wear several at once for another fashion look!
