Wrights Crocheted Basket VaseCrocheted Basket/Vase

Here's something new and different for all you crocheters out there. It's basically a pineapple patterned doily shaped into a basket, with a hole in the center in which you insert a vase, with the addition of a handle, making a perfect basket for your easter decorations. It's pretty and easy for the experienced crocheter, and can be filled with grass and decorated eggs, and a plush bunny. Then after the holiday, simply insert an arrangement of flowers in the vase and use it through all seasons.

    Handle

  • Ch 13. Dc, ch 1, 2 dc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 8, sh in first ch of beginning ch 13, ch 3, turn.
  • Sh in sh, ch 8, sh in sh, ch 3 and turn.
  • Repeat above row until handle is desired length, (omit ch 3 and turn on last row, finish off.
  • Weave checkered ribbon into handle. With remaining ribbon, make a bow and attach to front of basket.

Use fabric stiffener or starch to stiffen basket, insert large glass to shape base of basket and turn upside down and shape brim of basket by using stainless steel pins to pin to cardboard to dry. Stiffen handle and pin flat to cardboard. When dry, gently shape brim by bringing two sides up and attach handle and trim with ribbon.

HINT: Covering your glass and cardboard with a plastic bag makes removal easier. Once the crocheted piece is dry, you can remove the bag from the glass and insert the glass in the basket.

Enjoy!
