1 Plastic Buckle

1 1/4" Wide Flat Paintbrush with Short, Stiff Bristles
-- Plastic Wrap or Waxed Paper
INSTRUCTIONS:
    Crocheting
  • Ch 252, turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch.
  • Turn, * sk 2 sc, 5 dc, sk 2 sc, 1 sc,* repeat * to * for remaining sts. End off.
  • Repeat for the other side.

    Finishing
Note: If a conventional-type buckle is to be used, finish one end of the ribbon by folding it in half lengthwise, stitching close to the end and turning to form a point. Press lightly.

  • Tear off a piece of plastic wrap about 12" longer than the ribbon. Lay flat on work surface.
  • Place 1" ribbon on plastic wrap - put it down off center so that there will be room to move the belt to dry after the glue is applied.
  • Put a line of glue about 6" long about 1/4 from each side of ribbon starting about 3" from one end of the ribbon.
  • Lay crocheting on the glue - one piece on each side with the straight sides approximately 1/8" in from the edges of the ribbon.
  • Repeat down the length of the belt until all the crochet work is glued down; put another line of glue on top of crocheting. Spread the glue with the paintbrush and then, using short up-and-down strokes (ala stenciling) work the glue into the threads. Make sure all the ribbon and threads have been thoroughly saturated with glue - add glue a little at a time if necessary. Do not leave excess glue on the belt.
  • Continue in this manner until all the crochet work is glued down. Recheck entire length of the belt to make sure all excess glue has been removed and to be sure the crocheting is properly lined up and securely glued down.
  • Carefully lift belt and move to a clean area of the plastic wrap to dry.
  • When the belt is dry, slip the starting end through the buckle and glue in place on back of belt.
  • Fold ribbon so that the beginning of the crochet work is on the front of the belt. Another piece of plastic wrap and a heavy object may be needed to hold the ribbon in place initially.
  • Enjoy!
