SIZE: One size fits all (20" head size; stretches to 22").
GAUGE: Using size 8 (5mm) needles, 5 sts=1"; 8 rows 4 ridges=1"
Note: Hat is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together throughout.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Brim
- With size 10 needles, cast on 119 sts loosely. Purl one row, knit one row
- Next Row: K1, *P1, K1; rep from * across.
- Next Row: P1, *K1, P1; rep from * across.
- Repeat these 2 rows for ribbing for 4 rows. Change to size 8 needles. Continue in ribbing until brim measures 3" (7.5cm.).
Crown
- Next Row: K1, *2 tog; rep from * across (60 sts).
- Work in garter st (knit each row) for 6" (15 cm.) or desired depth before shaping.
Shaping
- K2 tog across row (30 sts). K next row. Rep last 2 rows once more (15 sts).
- Next Row: K1, *K2 tog; rep from * across (8sts).
- Next Row: Knit. Cut yarn leaving an 8" (20.5 cm.) end; draw end through all 8 sts tog and fasten.
Finishing
- Sew back seam of crown and brim. Turn first 2 rows to outside and sew in place loosely. Steam press crown over a hat or wig stand to shape, blocking to fit your head size.
