We've done the golf club covers, now we have something for the non-golfer. Our tennis racket cover is just the thing. I must warn you though, our knitted tennis racket cover is not for the beginner. It is knitted with a cable stitch and is more for the intermediate knitter to do. But if you feel confident in your skills, you can still attempt it! Once you've made one cover, you may want to make several to match your tennis outfits.

INSTRUCTIONS (Make 2):

• Cast on 23 sts. K 4 rows for garter stitch edge.
• Row 1: K9, P1, K1 , P1 , K1, P1, K9.
• Row 2: K2, P7, K1 , P1 , K1, P1, K1, P7, K2
• Row 3: K2, *sl next 2 sts to cable needle, hold at back, K next st, K2 from cable needle, K1, sl next st to cable needle, hold at front, K next 2 sts, K1 from cable needle (*Cable 7 - C7). P1, K1 , P1 , K1, P1, C7, K2.
• Row 4: K2, P7, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P7, K2.
• Rep these four rows 2 more times.
• Row 13: K2, C7, K1, Inc, K to last 10 sts, Inc, K1, C7, K2.
• Row 14: K2, P to last 2 sts, K2. Repeat these two rows until there are 59 sts on your needle.
• Continue working pattern (without increasing) for 19 rows. End on wrong side.
• First Dec Row: Keeping 11 sts on each side, dec 1 st each side (to decrease, K2 tog) every other row until there are 41 sts on needle (approximately 12 1/2" from beginning).
• Next Row: Work 11 sts, join a second ball of yarn, bind off 20 sts, work to end.
• Keeping pattern, work each side with separate yarn for about 2 1/2". Bind off. With tapestry needle, sew 11 sts tog. Sew inner edge to bound-off sts.

  Finishing
  

• Pin with wrong sides tog. Beginning at lower edge, weave tog to within 9" of opposite lower edge.
• Add zipper to remaining 9" to finish.
• If desired, embroider initials for a personalized cover.
