Samples of end uses Applying Maxi Piping

Piping is a versatile trim with many uses. Whether your personal style is country western or sophisticated elegance, piping can add the touch you need to make a simple project special. From women's wear to men's wear, home decor to children's clothing, piping can outline seams and highlight the shapes and colors of your project. Choose a gold metallic piping to add a touch of elegance to an evening jacket or a high contrast piping for a bold look on a western shirt. With piping, you can easily bring out a desired color, coordinate an ensemble and tie a look all together. Note: If you are using a 5/8" seam allowance, your cut edges will not match.

Inserting Piping Into A Seam
-----

Illustration 1Pin piping to right side of fabric, matching seam line of fabric with stitching line of piping with seam allowances facing in the same direction. Using a zipper foot, sew piping to fabric on the stitched line of the piping. Illustration 2Clip seam allowance if necessary. Take second piece of fabric, right side up, and place fabric with piping, right side down, on top, and pin together. Using stitching line as a guide, sew through all thicknesses of fabric.
How To Turn A Corner
-----
Illustration 3Pin piping to fabric. At the corner, clip seam allowance of piping to, but not through, the stitching. Illustration 4Continue to pin piping in place around corner. When sewing, stitch to corner, leave needle down, lift pressure foot and turn fabric. Drop pressure foot and resume sewing.
