Flat Trim
-----

Illustration 1

Lay bias tape flat on project and pin. Stitch as close to the edge of the tape as possible, making sure to stitch in the same direction on each side of the tape.
Illustration 2

To apply around a corner, pin bias tape where desired. Place a pin at the corner, perpendicular to the direction the bias tape is going, making sure that the head of the pin is on the outside edge of the corner.
Illustration 3

Leaving the pin in place, fold bias tape around corner so that a neatly mitered pleat is formed and continue pinning.
Illustration 4

Sew each side of the bias tape stitching as close to the edge of the tape as possible, making sure to sew the same direction on each side of the tape. Leave pin at the corner in place until both sides of the bias tape are sewn down.
Facing
-----
Illustration 1Unfold bias tape, and pin to right side of project matching crease line of tape to seam line of project. Sew, tape side up, in the crease of the tape. Illustration 2Trim and clip seam allowances if necessary. Press bias tape to the back and slip stitch down.
Casing
-----
Make casing at least 1/4" wider than the elastic or drawstring to be used. To determine amount of bias tape needed, measure the circumference of garment and add 1".

Illustration 1Pin bias tape to garment, fold bias tape under 1/2" at beginning and end so that the folds of the tape abut.

Sew down each side of the tape close to the folded edge of tape being careful to backtack at the beginning and end.

Illustration 2Using a safety pin, insert elastic or drawstring. If elastic is used, securely sew ends of elastic together, adjust fullness and slip stitch bias tape closed.
