Wrights Bible CoverBible Cover

Everyone should have a Family Bible in which to record all the occasions of life. Dress yours up (and protect it too) with our beautiful decorative cover. Make one for a couple about to be married or give as a gift for a wedding anniversary to a couple who may not have one!

Bibles have been passed down through generations of families for years. A hand made and designed cover will make it mean so much more...and serve a practical purpose too!

Also, make a Bookmark for your Bible. See instructions below.

MATERIALS: (for book size 6"w x 9"h x 2 1/4"d)
2 yds. Wrights® White Heart Venice Trim (#183-3001-030)
1/2 yd. Wrights® White Cord (#183-6141-030)
1/2 yd. White Mid-Weight Home Decorator Fabric*
1 coil 5/8" Heat 'n Bond Fusible Tape
-- FabriTac
INSTRUCTIONS:
*Because bibles are published in many sizes, you need to use this formula to calculate the yardage you will need to purchase for this project.

Illustration 1For length of fabric:
Measure the width of the bible from the edge of cover, around the spine and to the other edge of the cover (see illustration 1).
Multiply this measurement by 1.5 and add 1".
Example: 14 " x 1.5 = 21" + 1" = 22" total

For width of fabric:
Illustration 2Measure the height of the bible cover from top edge to bottom edge.
Multiply this measurement by 2 and add 1".
Example: 9" x 2 = 18" + 1" = 19" total
Cut fabric to your specifications.

  1. On wrong side of fabric, press a strip of fusible tape to both side edges of the fabric (see illustration 2). Remove protective paper.
  2. Fold the side edges of your fabric over 5/8" and press in place. (You are folding the edges of the material over by the width of the fusible tape.) Illustration 3
  3. Press a strip of fusible tape to the wrong side of the fabric on the top raw edge (see illustration 3). Remove protective paper.
  4. Fold the bottom raw edge to the center of the fabric. Next, fold the fused top edge to the center of the fabric and overlap the raw edge by 5/8" (see illustration 4).
  5. Press overlapped edges together. You have now created a flat fabric tube.
  6. Insert edge of bible cover into opening of fabric tube to encase half of the bible cover. Close cover on book, wrap fabric tube around book to the back and insert back cover into opposite opening of fabric.

  7. Glue a strip of the heart venice trim to the edge of the book spine on the front cover (see project photo).
  8. Glue the venice lace trim around the entire perimeter of the bible, starting and ending at the back of the book. Be sure that the points on the hearts face into the covers (see project photo).

    For Cross

  9. Cut one 9" piece of cord and one 7" piece of cord. Be sure to tape each end of the cord 1/8" to prevent fraying.
  10. Glue the ends of one piece of cord together to form a ring. Repeat for second piece of cord.
  11. Pinch the cord together and glue. Repeat for second piece. This will create the arms and post of the cross. Be sure that the taped ends are in the center of the cord before gluing (see illustration 5).
  12. Lay the arms (shorter piece) over the post (longer piece) and glue in place to form the shape of the cross (see project photo).
  13. Glue cross to bible cover (see photo).
  14. Glue Fashion Accents Flowers to center of cross to hide taped ends of cord.
  15. Enjoy!
