Cameo Boxes
You can create very interesting favors and small gifts to give at Bridal Showers and at the big event itself. One, pictured here, is a simple oval box covered with a natural fabric. The edge of the cover is outlined with a simple gimp braid for a perfect trim, and for the finishing touch, a cameo appliqué is added on the top of the cover. (Click on image for larger view)
Another version of the same little oval box is to add a second row of looped pearl trims to the top of the cover, with a pretty bow and a few tiny rosebuds, and again, a beaded cameo appliqué with pearls in the center.
To carry the theme through, we suggest making a cover for a small journal or guest book. Just cover the book using a satin or fine linen fabric. Outline the front with a braid trim and a row of pearls. Then make a pretty frame out of the string of pearls and place the cameo in the center.
All can be easily made using fabric glue for the trims, and will be guaranteed to delight the recipient!
FOR THE BRIDE, the cameo makes a wonderful embellishment on a hand made garter. All you need is a yard of 7/8" Satin ribbon, a length of 3/4" wide elastic, and
a cameo appliqué.
- Cut two lengths of 7/8" wide satin ribbon approximately 18" each.
- Sew them together at each edge, wrong sides together, creating a tube.
- Measure around your thigh, then cut a length of elastic to this measurement, plus 4 extra inches.
- Insert the elastic into the ribbon tube, catch stitching it at each end, gathering the ribbon to make it fit.
- Sew the two edges, right sides together, to make it a round garter.
- Stitch a cameo appliqué to it for the perfect embellishment.
Give your handmade item to the bride and watch the fun, with pride, at the wedding as the garter is removed by the groom and tossed to the crowd!
