What is the best way to wash items made with bias tape?
Most of the colors of our bias tape are colorfast, but whenever using a dark shade on a lighter fabric, it is ALWAYS safest to pre-wash the bias tape, OR set the color by using a mixture of one part vinegar to three parts hot water, plus 1 tsp. of salt. This will help insure that you have the best results possible.

How do I sew two pieces of quilt binding or bias tape together to get the length I need.
If using a "double folded" bias tape, open it up and look for a factory seam. If using a "single fold" bias tape, just turn it over and look for the factory seam. Look at the angle of the seam - it is a 45 degree angle (Note what way it is going). Press open the ends of the two pieces you will be joining. Sew them, right sides together, in a 1/2" seam. Trim the seam and press it open. Continue sewing it on your project. Hint: pin it together first, to check that it will be straight when you sew it. If it makes a corner, reverse the angle.

How do I remove iron-on hem tape?
ALWAYS do a test on your fabric first! After time, the hem tape is not removable. The tape can be removed, (with re-heating) but the glue stays! It works best on fabrics with some cotton. DO NOT use it on anything sheer or silk or any other fine fabrics.

How do I apply Magic Curtain Tapes?
For detailed instructions on how to make Pinch Pleat, Box Pleat, Roman Shade, Narrow or Wide Curtains, go to the Home Decorating section of our Classroom.
Here are a few general instructions:

• Line the curtain first, then sew the tapes approximately 1 1/2" down.
• Be sure to knot the ends. If you pull the cords out, you CANNOT re-thread them.
• Buy more than you need (at least 8" more) to be sure you have enough. You CANNOT piece it together if you run out.
• The Goblet tape is not marked to show top and bottom. The part with the LONGER spaces (pieces of cord) is the top. The bottom has more places where the cord is threaded (closer together).
• You only need one type of hook for ALL the Magic Curtain Tapes. It is the Sharp Pin On Hook (#183-9037-001).
• The Roman Shade Tube Tape (#145-1002-030) does NOT look like a tube. It is really two pieces of a flat band which are joined together on the bottom by a few "catch" stitches approximately 1 1/2" apart. This is so you can put a dowel into the "tube" at any point and remove it to clean the shade.
