William E. Wright started by selling fabric door to door. Recognizing what his customers truly needed, he invented a way to package bias tape folded over paperboard — and built the largest, earliest manufacturer of packaged bias tape in America. That same spirit of ingenuity drives us today.

1897

Born in Massachusetts

William E. Wright founds the company in Massachusetts after selling fabric door to door. He invents packaged bias tape folded over paperboard — becoming the largest and earliest manufacturer of its kind in America.

Post-WWI

A First in the Industry

Wrights acquires colorfast German dyes and becomes the first company to offer a printed guarantee on each package that colors would not bleed — a revolutionary promise to every maker.

1920s–1930s

In Every American Home

Packaged bias tape becomes a staple for beloved quilt patterns like Grandmother's Flower Garden. Wrights is featured in the Sears catalog, reaching millions of American homes.

2025

Reborn. Back in Massachusetts.

Industry veterans with 50+ years of experience acquire Wrights following a bankruptcy, bringing the legendary brand back to Massachusetts — stronger than ever.
